Are You Ready to Try Professional Cornhole?

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, ESPN searched for new sports and events that could be aired on live television. One of the most popular choices for the network was professional cornhole.

The network aired the regional qualifiers, semifinals, and several tournament finals for the United States professional tour. What is unique about this event than other pro sports is that anyone can conceivably qualify to become part of the event.

If you dominate your backyard cornhole games with family and friends, it might be time to take your skills to the next level. Should you be interested in playing professional cornhole, here are the steps that you’ll need to follow.

How to Play in the American Cornhole League

The American Cornhole League (ACL) Is your ticket toward professional competition. The League encourages social and competitive play for all skill levels and ages, including custom events and tournaments. If you want to compete with others in an official capacity, you must have a membership with this organization.

The cost to have an ACL membership is $25 if you join before January 1st in the year you intend to compete.

Once you become a member of the American Cornhole League, your player profile lets you see what type of player and your current skill level are for competitions. The designations get determined by your overall experience playing the game.

After establishing your player profile, the association’s directors will place you in divisions that group you with others who have similar social or competitive skill levels. The ACL allows everyone to play up to the next division, understanding that the competition is going to be more difficult.

Start Competing After You Become Established

Once you take the time to establish all of this information, the ACL allows you to begin competing at whatever competition level you prefer for tournaments. There are local, regional, conference, and national opportunities based on your assigned skill level.

If you perform well in the tournaments during the year, your designations can change to continue competing with the people who have a similar skill set.

Should you the talented and lucky enough to win everything, the prize pool in some of the tournaments can exceed $50,000 today. That’s some decent money to make for a game you might have learned how to play in your backyard!

If you haven’t tried playing cornhole yet, this beanbag game works in virtually every backyard. You can play it in a garage, game room, or another location of your choosing. Most sets retail for under $50 if you’re ready to start learning.

Whether you need an excuse to start the grill or share some time with friends, your first toss could lead you to professional victories sooner than you know.
